The National Forest Way

Design / Interpretation / Maps

In 2014, after a successful pitch win, we were asked to design thirteen orientation panels for the new 75-mile long distance trail in the National Forest across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire.

Using the existing National Forest brand and developing it further, we created a whole new mapping style for the Forest and template for wayfinding along the trail.

We worked with Antomic Woodworking who built the structures and suggested improvements in materials. The final panels were GRP backed onto tricoya with green oak timber uprights which showed the routed logo.

We also needed to create drawings for planning applications and to work closely with the client to ensure the various landowners were happy and the content was relevant and correct.

The trail opened in spring to some great publicity and as part of the National Forest Walking Festival.

Shown here are three of the panels along the way.
