Tree Team Interpretation

Design / Interpretation

Following a successful tender, we were asked to design and implement a new visitor viewing area for the Wolfson Tree Management Centre at Westonbirt. The idea was to explain to visitors what’s going on in front of them and what the Tree Team are up to even when they can’t see anything happening. It also explains the various reasons behind why the Tree Team do what they do –  the science behind it, tree care, management and everything between.

The info point had to be low tech (no power supply) and interactive but allow people to get up close to the tools while maintaining a safe distance from the heavy machinery in the yard beyond.

We designed and managed the project from start to finish, working closely with the Westonbirt team to ensure they were getting what they wanted. We briefed Jody Thomas, the talented artist who sprayed the elements this realistic way, and worked alongside Antomic who built and installed the final piece.

You can read more about the process we went through for the project here.

The Wolfson Tree Management Centre project has been an exciting addition to the arboretum and has provided us with an excellent opportunity to engage visitors with our care of the collection.

The interpretation captures the imagination of our visitors and caters for a variety of audiences – from young children with a simple passion for tractors to professionals who want a more in-depth understanding of what we do.

Throughout the project The Way Design were responsive to our requests and we were especially pleased with their creative concepts and their professionalism in managing the different elements.
